José Orbeín (b. Havana, Cuba – d. California 2013). He studied graphic design at the School of Graphic Design (Havana) and later trained in printmaking at the UNEAC workshop with master printer Roger Aguilar. There, he met masters Raimundo García, Umberto Peña, and Raúl Martínez. Orbeín moved to the U.S. in 1980. His paintings took on the look of Old Havana walls mixed with references to Afro-Cuban myth, especially that of the Abakua Society. His works are part of private and public collections in Cuba, the U.S., Italy, Germany, England, France, Poland, Japan, India, Holland, Switzerland, and Austria.
