ART IN THE COMMUNITY

As part of the ART IN THE COMMUNITY programs, Kendall Art Center will present “Family Ties” Two histories where parents and children have given their energies completely to this vocation, different generations and ways of seeing and expressing, but the same passion and dedication. In a country of diversity, these two unique families raised their children under very different environments and had very different experiences and paths themselves that in the end, always leads to art.

WOMAN IN THE ARTS

As part of the WOMAN IN THE ARTS program, Kendall Art Center will present “Women Artists in the Collection,” a selection of contemporary artworks by female artists of the community. This exhibition, curated and moderated by Yuneikys Villalonga, will highlight the tremendous diversity in the Miami Metro area and explore the vibrant artistic energy of women artists from many cultural backgrounds.

May 2022 - July 2022

SOFLO NEW ARTISTS

Kendall Art Center in collaboration with Florida International University and Miami International University of Art & Design will present “Master of Fine Arts” with the aim to promote and launches graduate's student into the contemporary art community. An annual exhibition that allows the Kendall Art Center to celebrate the achievements of the graduating students in the MFA program in local universities. Curated by recent graduates of curatorial studies and museum practices.
Our programs include all year round: Art exhibitions, creative workshops, presentations, lectures, research, art making and guided  tours.

Montoto at MoCA-Americas,

A unique opportunity to see his work and understand his creative process

Next Friday, January 20th, the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas will open the exhibition "Manuscript in a Bottle" by Cuban artist Arturo Montoto. This is his first solo exhibition in the United States. The museum is honored to showcase the work of a well-established national and international figure and reference in the art world.

Montoto received a Master's degree in Fine Arts from the Surikov Institute in Moscow in 1984, specializing in mural painting. He is also a draftsman, engraver, sculptor, and photographer. He is also a professor at the Higher Institute of Art in Havana and has been the Head of the Painting Department since 1990. He has also taught several theoretical-practical courses for professional artists in Chile and was invited to a residency at the University of Maine in Augusta, United States, where he shared his experiences in painting, drawing and gave several lectures on his own work.

In 2008, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (OMRI) in the category of Knight, he also holds the Certificate of Appreciation (Association of Latin American Art and Contemporary Artists Dictionary) for his contribution to the development of Hispanic culture in the United States.

His work can be found in various art institutions such as the University of San Gerónimo in Old Havana, Cuba, the Pinacoteca of the Cultural Complex of the Customs of Antigua in Barranquilla, Colombia, Fort Lauderdale Art Museum, Nova Southeastern University in Florida, United States, Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) in Long Beach, California, United States, Museum of the University of Virginia, United States, Emilio Bacardi Provincial Museum, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Contemporary Art Center Wifredo Lam, Havana, Cuba, Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami, Florida, United States, Basilica Museum of the Convent of San Francisco de Asis, Old Havana, Cuba, Vatican Museums, Italy, Permanent Gallery of the Hotel Inglaterra, City of Havana, Cuba, PROA Foundation, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hispanic American Friendship Society, French Guiana, Museum of History of Pinar del Río, Cuba, Studio-Arturo Montoto Gallery, September-October, Guanabacoa, City of Havana, Cuba, Gallery of the Cervantes Institute, September, Berlin, Germany, Gallery of the Opera House in Cairo, October, Egypt, Intemporel Gallery, April-July, Paris, France.

He has over 40 solo exhibitions worldwide and numerous group exhibitions. Our exhibition will be open to the public from 6 pm on January 20th, 2023, and will run throughout the rest of the month and all of February. Most of the paintings on display were painted at the end of last year and have not been publicly exhibited before. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to see his work and understand his creative process.
